Potentially ignorant question: what would "institutional equity research sales" look like at a top tier bank?

Extracting from the title, its obvious, I understand that: but is this part of ER or is this a sales position closer to 'sales & trading'.

The reason I ask is that ER gets blasted on this forum while sales are considered a 'higher form of life'. If this were to be a classic sales position, I would be inclined to think that the research - what the bank is actually selling - would garnish more credibility than the one selling it, no?

Lateral pre-MBA from consulting to ib

I am wondering if anyone has examples or thoughts of a possible lateral from M/B/B analyst w/ 2 years exp to an IB (specifically lev fin) analyst program.

Would you be expected to already have hard skills relative to finance (ie: modeling, valuation, excel mastery) or would you be brought along like a campus-hire analyst?

Recognize could go from consulting to MBA to associate at i-bank, but would like to hear about this option, as well...

Per the position description below, would this be considered the 'sales' in the 'sales&trading'???

Position:
IIG (Institutional Investor Group) Sales Associate.
Work with senior salesperson covering institutional and middle markets accounts in equity sales.

Location: Boston

Basic Responsibilities:
*Construct brief summary of US Equity Research call after morning meeting.
*Learn Citigroup Investment Research product and process/ evaluate stock ideas.

Going through old posts, it's pretty evident what junior level pay is in research. What does it escalate to after 5 years? 10 years? Once you become a senior analyst/MD?

Don't confuse with with a corporate finance/s&t salary+bonus question. I know research is paid less, but I would like to know some numbers if anybody has got 'em.

Does anybody know if there is such a thing as an "operating analyst/associate" at any PE firms?

I'm thinking along the lines of "operating partners" (the ex-CEO's & industry types) but at the junior level.

Somebody punch me in the face if this is just the dumbest thing you think you have every heard:

I am in puppy love with a top 10-15 MBA program and think its the greatest thing in the world.

Given the options, would anybody choose an MBA program they think is great that has an average ranking of #12+/- over a program with unanimous higher ranking/prestige?

It seems like most people just go to the highest ranked one they get into? Anybody ever not done this?
