Corporate Fin. Low life

This scenario actually took place about two weeks ago in a corp. fin. class. The professor asked what a 'proxy' was..and this is what ensued:

1st girl called on: "I don't know" (probably the smartest answer up until I spoke 4th).

2nd guy called on: "it is an approximation" (fucking moron).

3rd guy called on: "a temporary number" (equally useless response).

Thoughts? I was quite frank

Quote of the week concept

This idea was proposed in another thread, but I believe it is a good idea.

wannabebanker wrote:

Salam Shpekov wrote:

Where I work, MD's piss and shit with the mortals

Can I nominate this for post of the week? Can we begin giving out an award for post of the week, just for this quote?

*This could be done on the basis of amusing, cynical, insightful quotes. As for implementing the selection process, just designate 2-4 willing volunteers to nominate 3 or so fitting posts, and then determine a winner.

Equity Research vs. Financial Modeling

I have the opportunity to work in the equity research dept. for a bank, or to work for a bio-tech firm doing financial modeling. Both positions would be a over the course of the summer as an internship, but I wondered how these experiences would be viewed by others when I apply for a full time ibanking position. Is it very important that I have experience in financial modeling? even at a non-bank? It would mostly be capital budgeting for projects and work of that nature. Is experience in equity research highly regarded? I am just looking for some feedback on which way I should go with the opportunities available to me, all firm reputations aside.

Rotational full time position vs. full time analyst position

I was hoping to hear some opinions on these two different jobs. I am being pursued for a full time job at a BB for a 4 year stint in their rotational ibanking program. It basically consists of a series of 6 month postings around the globe in major cities such as ny,chicago, zurich, london, etc. I am told that it pays very well, and that is quite an opportunity to gain exposure to all functional areas of the bank in addition to the investment banking division.

Banana system update.

Just curious how 0-15 bananas is a chimp ranking, while a senior chimp ranking begins at 15...and so on. It should begin at 16.

http://www.ibankingoasis.com/rankings

Perhaps update the rankings for consistency? Gotta love the little details.
