So a little background on me: I transferred into a non-ivy target at then end of junior year, and to fulfill residency requirements it took me an extra year to graduate. Last summer I interned at a BB in the back office but managed to get a full-time offer for the IB. I really liked the bank I worked at and didn't think of shopping my offer around, so I accepted the offer and was placed into the energy/power space without ever interviewing with any other banks.

Energy/Power exit opps

I've been placed into an energy/power group at a bank who is strong in the area...what kind of exit opps am I looking at? Some of the analysts I spoke to said that a lot of the knowledge you pick up is proprietary and that there aren't many PE players--particularly in the oil & gas sector. If I work in the power sector, will I get more exposure to sponsor deals?

MBA necessary?

Is an MBA necessary to break into a top fund (if you're coming from IB at a BB)? Anyone have personal experience i.e. lack of MBA prevented them from landing a job or vise versa?

Chances of keeping your girl after going into banking

I have signed with a BB for full-time and will begin in July, and my girl is freaking out, saying that it will be impossible to stay together after I become married to my cubicle but I told her to calm down and that it wouldn't be that bad. Is this realistic?

Transferring from NYC to London

So I've accepted an offer from a BB (think Citi, JPM, Merrill) in NY and I would ultimately like to end up in London for my second year. How should I go about this? Should I start telling people relatively early to get the wheels in motion or wait for a bit and spring it on everyone around 9 months into my analyst stint? Anyone have experience doing this?
