Hey Guys,

There seems to be a lot of info out there on the large private equity players - Carlyle, TPG Capital, KKR and Blackstone.

I was wondering if anyone knew about the following firms - RippleWood, JC Flowers, Quadrangle and WL Ross & Co....in terms of
- Hiring (Numbers & Headhunters used)
- Which groups & Investment Banks are favoured at these firms ?
- Culture / Hours ?
- Pay ?

Goldman Sachs Technology PIA

I am currently working as a second year analyst within the Technology Investment Banking team at a BB on the west coast.

Was keen to explore Tech focussed private equity options and was wondering if any one had information about the Technology PIA team at Goldman Sachs ?

- What is the size of the team ?
- Which locations is it based out of ?
- Culture and Hours (compared to IBD) ?
- Performace of the group ?

KKR Menlo Park

Would anyone know the size of KKR's Menlo Park office ?

How many analysts do they have / hire each year ?

I am assuming that office is focussed on Technology/Biotech deals & general West Coast operations.

Where do they hire most of their analysts from ? GS/MS ? Do they contact people directly / use headhunters ?

Any thoughts on the above would be very helpful.

Also..which other PE shops are good for Technology. I am guessing Silver Lake Partners, Elevation Partners, Blackstone, TPG, H&F...any others ?

IBD Analyst role in IPO Process

Would some one be able to clarify what role the analyst plays in each step of the IPO process. The different steps are :

Step 1) Pitch
Step 2) Due Diligence
Step 3) Drafting of Prospectus
Step 4) Printing
Step 5) Filing with SEC
Step 6) Roadshow Prep
Step 7) Make SEC Rec Changes
Step 8) Roadshows
Step 9) Pricing Shares
Step 10)Listing

I am assuming that the analyst builds the pitch book along with the associate in step1. However not sure which of the remaining steps have analyst involvement. I thought associates/VP's are involved with drafting & due diligence sessions. I know analyst is involved with making investor presentations for roadshow.

Comp Analysis - Questions ?

I was wondering if some one could guide me on how comps are built at a BB.

1. Is the data pulled from financial reports or is it taken directly from CapitalIQ, Factset, etc ?

2. What all has to be done to scrub the comps ? Are steps mentioned below all that is needed ?
- Normalizing Earnings (Adding one off / restructuring expenses and subtracting one off or non recurring gains )
- Adjusting for different financial periods(31st March vs 31st December)

Question on building Models, Comps in IBD

Do banks already have pre-formatted - templates / models in Excel that are used for building a DCF Model, LBO, Comps, etc

Or do new analysts need to start with a new spreadsheet...and follow a particular format ?

Can these models...be easily instanstiated in a powerpoint presentation ?

Thanks

Distinction between M&A / IBD Sector Coverage / DCM / ECM / Regional Teams

I am joining a BB as a new analyst within the IBD group to cover a sector.

I was wondering if some one could explain ..how the different teams interact on a given deal.

For example....If I am an analyst covering the healthcare sector in London and have been staffed on a deal involving a medical company in Germany which is looking at strategic options for a poorly performing division - spin off division through IPO, sell division to PE, sell division to other companies within sector, recapitalize, etc

Silver lake Partners & Francisco Partners

Silver Lake Partners and Francisco Partners are among the best Private Equity firms that are focussed on Technology. The analysts/associates at these two firms seem to be hired from across all the Investment Banks. I was wondering if anyone knew how the hiring at these firms is done ? Is it through a head hunter, or do analysts apply on their own in the second year ?

Building Presentations & Word Processing

I know that analysts spend a majority of their time building financial models, collecting data from financial reports, compiling precedent transactions, building comps, etc
