Banking to Consulting - Start from beginning?

I know there's been posts on this, and most say this transition is possible. But if someone did 2 years of banking, got MBA, and tried for consulting, would they start from the beginning? (like people out of college), or is it like banking where you go to an "Associate" role? thanks.

Financial District safe to live?

I know it's dead at night, but social life aside, is it a safe place to live? I think I felt certain places were a bit shady at night, but wanted to hear other people's thoughts. What are usually the safe/unsafe neighborhoods in Manhattan?

Sign date vs. Move in Date for Apartments

How much time do people usually leave between sign date and move in date for apartments? My hometown is pretty far away from NYC, so ideally I would make all my appointments ahead of time, take a day to look at all of them, select one by the end of the day, and move in as soon as possible. Can this be done?

IB to Industry - When to switch?

I'm starting as a full time analyst this summer in a top industry group at a BB. Unlike many others, I don't want to do hedge fund or PE, but management at an industry. What is the best time to transition? Go to B-school after 2 years? After associate? After VP? What do you think?

Breaking Into Industry?

If you're in an industry banking group, how realistic is it to eventually want to do management in that field? For example, if you did Tech, do you have the opportunity (maybe post-MBA) to be project manager for a tech firm? If you did Healthcare, then Healthcare management, Media to Entertainment, etc.?

GS Regional or Other BB NY?

I know location vs. brand name has been discussed, but each in their own specific context. What would be a better opportunity, GS Regional (SF, Chicago) or BB (not MS, but think JPM/Lehman/ML) in New York? I know GS has a reputation, but a BB in New York is the center of activity and gets a lot of deal flow and networking. Is the brand name of GS worth going to a smaller, generalist position for?

Can they take away your full time offer after summer?

Since market conditions aren't ideal, if you were a summer analyst at a BB and haven't accepted the offer yet, could they take back their offer if they need to cut labor? Or would they fire the current employees first?

JPM vs. Merrill Summer Analyst

Saw it asked in some form earlier, but only discussed briefly. Which would you say holds more prestige? Has more growth potential? Good experience overall? I've heard both has good internship program and senior support. Merrill is growing strong after restructurings and JPM has had big improvements over the past years. What do you think?

I'm open to different groups. If I had to specify a preference, maybe ECM or Sponsors.

Top Hedge Fund operations vs. Bulge bracket Ibank analyst?

I'm an undergrad choosing between an offer from a prestiguous hedge fund operations position and bulge bracket analyst role. The offer compensation is roughly the same, but what about future opportunities? I know for a bulge bracket ibank I have a clear career path leading to MBA to associate and above. But what about the hedge fund? The company is notoriously hard to get into, but how hard is it to move up from operations back office to higher positions?
