If two smaller regional banks are looking to merge what are some of the major numbers they would look at besides ROA, ROE, assets, etc. Any industry specifics I should know, anyone with experience that could give me a few sentences would be great.

Background:
I am a senior finance/accounting major. Experience at a BB in trading. No banking experience though I have built models in school in various capacities.

Credit Crunch Internationally

Things are pretty bad here, dry CP markets, housing crashing, banks reporting huge losses, hiring slowed, M+A taking a hit. I know that some of the major int'l banks have taken losses too, but how bad are things itnernationally?

Obviously it is contributing to the weakening of the dollar, but what else are those that work abroad seeing?

Anyone know anything about the trading divisions within WM, obviously it varies from firm to firm, but I know that within both UBS and MS for instance there are trading departments within WM that trade flow for both high net worth clients and FA's. Is this potentially a stepping stone to the institutional side, or a dead end?

Anyone had an experience here?

Institutional vs Retail Trading

How big is the difference in flow, and thus compensation, between the institutional and retail sides of S+T. Obviously the flow is much lower in retail, but the margins are better.

Maybe there should be a rating system for posters. Those people that post helpful material will be ranked higher, allowing the newer people to know who to trust. Posters can rank one another based on how informative their posts are. It may become a popularity contest, but I think overall it would be helpful.
