What does your name mean?

I;m always curious as to why people have chosen their screen names.

I chose 'mika' because I saw that there was a singer with this name, and I thought it was cool.

Hopefully your stories are more interesting!

Thread closing

Here's a suggestion-when mods close a thread, it would be nice if they quickly posted one last time and explained why that post would be closed. That way, maybe people will stop doing the same things over and over again.

Maybe have a section on the site that has all the forum rules (I know there is something like that; just make it more formal). Then when you are closing a thread, post once in it and say something like, "This thread is being closed because it is off-topic/becoming a personal attack/already being discussed/inappropriate (link to relevant rule).

Bananas

What is the point of bananas? I don't understand what good it does to have more of them...I know initially having 6 or whatever allows you to see the compensation databse, but what is their purpose after that?

These forums have gotten SO boring

Seriously. Either people are repeating themselves over and over again, or asking the stupidest questions.

Someone say something interesting.

Options vs Futures/Forwards

Hey guys,

I know all about options and futures/forwards, but I am still a little confused on why a company/person woould choose one over the other.

For example, if it is an oil-porducing company that wants to hedge against a drop in the price of oil, why would it be better to purchase a future/forward contract rather than to buy a put option?

Any insight into the uses on these different contracts (and pros/cons) would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone attending/graduated from Richard Ivey?

Are there any posters who currently attend or have completed a degree (HBA or MBA) at Ivey?

I have a friend who is considering going there (for HBA), but wants to do finance and wants to know what recruiting is like there. Who are the main recruiters? How many students typically get summer positions? Full-time?

Is Ivey generally a good school for finance? I hear they use the 'case' method more than anything-can you learn finance this way? And also, can you specialize in finance?

Advice/prep for summer interns

I know it has been posted about at great length, but I was wondering if those of you who have had a summer banking position and/or are currently in banking could list a few things they 1) learned 2) wish they knew going in or 3) could recommend doing in preperation for a summer position.

Yes I know it's best to take it easy the month or so before starting this type of work, but even if you could recommend some reading or whatever that would be helpful.
