Lazard acquires investment bank

Published: July 10, 2007 - 12:51 pm

Bruce Wasserstein’s Lazard Ltd. said Tuesday that it was acquiring investment bank Goldsmith Agio Helms & Lynner in an effort to jumpstart its own middle market business.

The acquisition, Lazard’s first since going public in 2005, will allow Lazard to use Minneapolis, Minn.-based Goldsmith as the foundation for a new division of its financial advisory business. Middle market business accounts for more than 2,000 deals every year.

Banker Pet Peeves and Best Practices

Looking for a little perspective here.

When our firm brings a deal to market (and we're talking about the middle market here), we'll frequently market to the private equity universe via limited or broad auction processes. For those of you who participate in these processes on a regular basis:

1) What are some of the things that you've encountered that i-bankers running a deal can do particularly well and that you wish more would do? (Besides just giving you the deal, wise-ass)

Safe at Citi

Citi cuts: I-bankers could be safe
by Vipal Monga
thedeal.com

The announcement by Citigroup Inc. on Wednesday, April 11, that it would cut 17,000 jobs across the entire company won't mean the bank will see many reductions in its investment banking arm, sources say.
The bank's CEO, Charles Prince, said the world's largest financial services company would work to reduce its expense growth by cutting jobs, moving 9,500 jobs to lower-cost locations and merging back-office and technology operations. All told, the moves are meant to cut expense growth by $4.6 billion by 2009, at which time the strategy is expected to be fully implemented.
