Career Advice Needed

Given the condition of the current job market, would people here take a PE job for a salary less than that of banking? I would enjoy a buy-side role much more, but it's just hard to take a pay cut

exit opps of hedge funds

just curious if anyone left a hedge fund job to do something non-hedge fund.. i almost have this impression that once you are in a hedge fund, it is hard to go back to BB banks, go into PE (possibly mid-market would be ok though), consulting and corporations.

with the economy now doing poorly, there must be an added risk of joining a hedge fund nowadays

power/utilities

anyone have info on these groups? they are pretty interesting at the moment - especially with new emission regulations and increasing use of alternative energy. how do banks stack up against each other?

and how are the exit opps? from another post, i found out that carlyle had a power/energy buyout group. is this common in large PE shops?

thanks!

Location and Group

how much does location matter to a group? for instance, should non-houston/texas energy or east-coast technology affect a decision to join that particular group or not?

i just want to shed a little light on this topic.. not sure how much this matters, or how significantly it does. thanks!

FIG exits

There has been several discussion about how FIG is horrible for exit opportunities. Does anyone who works in FIG or knows people who work in FIG see that as being true? I'm going to be going through group placement and all this talk about the apocalypse after my 2 yrs are up is getting to me. Any response will be appreciated. THanks!
