Part of bonus to charity - but a dilema

Does anybody ever do this. Somehow I got it into my head that I'd like to however since as long as I've been old enough to think about serious stuff like poverty etc I've always been convinced that charities waste most of their money on internal costs with something like 10% reaching the target (ie all these people who stand around on the streets who hassle you about some charity or another - they usually aren't standin there for free). Has anybody ever managed to overcome this mental block / find a way of giving which means your hard earned cash doesn't end up as the paycheck for some postgrad who couldn't get a real job?

Tips for FTers

Since starting dates are coming up soon I was just thinking - are there some tips people could pass on for those starting full time this summer? Basically the sort of small details and the type of stuff that you wish you had known when starting or whatever since I'm guessing its not quite the same as an internship in that you already have a job and aren't trying to get in. Maybe there aren't any secrets of the trade per se but even personal experiences would be useful.

Truth or white lie?

Ok here's the story - was filling out the medical questionare the firm sent for the FT offer and on it there's a question of whether I've ever taken recreational drugs, which I have to a fair extent but not since last year so they wouldn't be detectable in a test (which I don't think they do anyhow). Since the firm and not just the medical centre see this info do people think I should answer yes or no.

Wondering if people know what banks are considered general leaders in different emerging market areas, ie central/easter europe, se asia etc? Stats on this type of stuff is way harder to come by.

Vacation in London

Could anybody comment on the situation in London regarding taking days off. I remember reading that in NY you often don't get to use anywhere near the amount of days they give you. What's it like in London offices? I supposedly have 25 days off per year, wondering how many I am realistically going to be able to use.

What is it with Americans and GS

Hey guys, nice site, have been trawling for a bit. Anyways intro - i'm going into the IBD of one of the main european banks in London, guess that's about it really.

One thing that strikes me on this board is the obsession with GS, the whole GS or bust idea. We definately don't have it on this side of the pond, yeah people know GS is good but anybody I know would be chuffed to get a place at any of the major banks. I could sorta understand the idea of the kudos from saying you work at GS but tell ppl you are an investment banker and they will be impressed however I really don't think the chick at the bar cares what place it came in the vault guide. Then with ppl in the industry itself, they will know which teams are good at which banks and won't give a damn either. I sorta figure the ppl going on about it are 18yr olds but then there must be a load of them here.
