New York question

Hey,

I've got a question for you nyc people. I'm looking for a place in Manhattan, and I see a lot of affordable luxury bldgs in the Financial District. However my friend told me that FiDi doesn't have a lot of restaurants or bars or anything, just office buildings and apartment buildings. How true is this? Also wondering about people's feelings about Stuy Town and Soho. The things that are important to me in order are safety, proximity to restaurants/bars/groceries/etc., general ambiance of neighborhood.

Total number of analysts

Just wondering if anyone has any idea how many analyst positions open up every year at the BBs. For example, I know Lehman has ~ 130 or so ever year. Not to start a debate about the whole BB/non-BB thing but assuming GS, MS, ML, Citi, LB, CS, UBS, JPMorgan as the Bulge, what would their total number of new analysts be every year? Adding those up, my rough guess would be about a 1000 maybe? Also if anyone has any idea for M/B/B.

What exactly does a senior treasury official do at a BB? I'm specifically talking about Tokyo but any info would be helpful. Thanks.

Hedge fund question

Hey-

Just wondering what is the difference between working for a fund of funds and a hedge fund as an analyst. Obviously the work is different but is it possible to transfer from a FOF to a hedge fund or are you pretty much cast into a FOF career path? Also can you switch over to BB HFs? Finally how does the comp compare between FOFs and hedge funds?

Appreciate any responses, this is not just an idle query.

Small PE shop question

Hi guys,

Been trawling this forum for a while, just had a quick question. I am a senior graduating in May and am working at a top consulting firm after graduation (not M/B/B but still prestigious). Anyway I have an opportunity this summer to work at a small PE firm here in California before I start full-time. I have already decided I want to work there especially because the job is extremely broad, they essentially told me they will take more for however long I want to work and I can do whatever function I would like, I just need to ask for it.
