A LESSON TO EVERYONE

Forum,

I'm starting my first day tomorrow at a 'top-tier' private equity house (i.e. BC, KKR, Blackstone, Carlyle etc..) in NY.

I don't have any fancy credentials (graduated from UC San Diego GPA 3.5), didn't play in any sports teams and wasn't a 'stud' on campus (i.e. leader of any societies etc..).

I did two years investment banking, NOT at a BB, but at a '2nd-tier' house which has marginal M&A presence in the US (even though they've invested heavily in the past couple of years in line with their strategy of building up the franchise in the U.S.) - closed around 3 deals (in 2 years!), all in the $500m range.

Petsky Prunier

I just met some dude from a firm called Petsky Prunier...what a jackass, I wonder what it must be like to work there...

Does anyone else know any names of any other investment banks in which working there is likely to give a higher degree of diss than a checkout dude at WalMart?

I've been fired - what do I do?

All,

Require some help/suggestions on my next course of action.

As the topic header indicates, I've been fired from my current firm - I was an Analyst, with around 8 months of experience.

My background: I went to Reading University in the UK (I'm UK based), had a decent B grade marksheet and did internship at ABN in the operations office.

However, when it came to the recruiting phase in November 2004, I knew that my current background wouldn't help me as much, especially when I saw the competition. Therefore, I did the STUPIDEST thing I could have done - alter my grades, to A, and upgrade my internship to a front-office role.
