Check these two fellas out; Angus and Richard Grinham, now in their early 30s, founders of Grinham Managed Funds (Australia's 4th largest HF with $2bn FUM), the guys are in the Young & Rich list with fortune north of $250mill.

Gotta love the job description on their site: "The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. or recent Honours/Masters degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, finance or a related field. All levels of experience will be considered. Competency in software development is essential and a thorough knowledge of one or more of Fortran, C, C++, Matlab/Octave or related languages will be required. Knowledge of or past research experience in any of the fields of complex systems, statistical and numerical analysis, machine learning, pattern recognition, time series modelling or related would be highly regarded."

Perhaps there is some expats here, or simply "internationally mobile professionals", so this question may be relevant.

Background: I was born in Russia, the family moved to Australia in â€˜94; I grew up here and got my finance degree here as well.

Now, Australian financial services are similar to US, and UK. They are largely friendly to competition, and therefore thousands of funds compete somewhat on level ground to manage the respective country's retirement savings. So, if you are gonna make a living as a fund manager in US, UK or Australia, there's thousands of other funds that you're gonna compete with for people's savings.

What are you guys using, if anything? In a general sense, what tech are you using on the job?
