Does engineering make it hard to get IBD?

Are engineers viewed as too quantitative for IB and only fitting in research/trading? Any advice on avoiding this?

Suppose that you were already admitted to a top b-school but had to work for a few years before entering and that your undergraduate majors are Finance and Engineering (giving you job options in either field). Your goal is to get an IB offer from a BB.

Advanced Degree Paths into Trading

I know David Shaw and James Simons both have very advanced quantitative degrees. I think I've read that trading is expected to get more and more quantitative as time goes on.

Right now I'm an Electrical Engineering undergrad so have some quantitative knowledge -- what would be some recommended paths to getting into trading?

My GPA is about 3.5 at Northwestern majoring in EE/Econ. I'm going to be a senior and had no internship or job this summer.

I'm considering applying for FT and if I don't get offers, applying for summer internships (and staying an extra year), then trying for FT again the following year.

Is this allowed, will it look bad, etc.?

My school's job search software has a job that says the following. Should my email just say I have attached my resume, contact me soon, etc. (just a few sentences) or should I include a cover letter anyway?

Do b-school students generally do more than just their 2 years in IB because they wouldn't be admitted to b-school unless they did?

Do recruiters for IB prefer b-school students with more than 2 years experience or will it be insignificant (i.e. if you can interview well it won't matter)?
