Best time to drop resume?

The big banks on my target school's on campus recruiting website are now accepting resumes for summer internships. The website states that they are accepting them from early November through early January. Does dropping my resume early (i.e. now or very soon) give me any type of advantage? I was thinking that I would until the end of the semester to get an idea if this semester would raise or lower my gpa and then drop either in early December or late December depending on the grades I think that I am going to get. Any advice?

Resume Drop/Using Contacts

I'm a junior at an ivy and I am planning on doing the typical route of resume dropping when the banks start accepting them on my school's on campus recruiting website. However, I also have a few contacts who have friends in high places at many of the big banks. Should I just ask these people that I know to forward my resume to their friends and then drop my resume on my school's website anyway? When is the best time to ask them to start sending out my resume? Right around the time of resume drops? Or earlier (2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, etc.)?

Thanks for your help.

Graduating a semester early

I'm graduating a semester early, which means it is going to take me 3.5 years to get my degree. Is there anyway I should indicate this on my resume so people don't assume that I took an extra semester to graduate (i.e. 4.5)?

What can be considered a boutique ib?

If a small shop does some investment banking but the majority of its employees and revenue are associated with brokerage like equity sales, can this place be considered a boutique investment bank? Could I describe it as such in interviews?

Offers Down?

From a Cornell Daily Sun article:

“Hiring is very poor this year,” Prof. Charles Chang, finance, told The Sun. “There are less than half the offers going up than last year. The amount of callbacks is lower — last year maybe 8 out of 10 interns at a company would get hired. This year it will be more like 4 out of 10,” he said.

Some highlights:

Quote:

The perks for an intern who chooses to spend the summer in Hong Kong are impossible to ignore. Over the course of a summer, banking interns make a set amount of money, usually between $10,000 and $12,000 for 10 weeks of work. This might seem like a lot, but it amounts to even more in Asia, especially since some firms put their employees up in posh hotels, gratis. The perks don’t stop there—interns working in the Asia-Pacific offices also get their own secretaries.
