Lehman analyst and CNN.com

This guy better hope that no one finds out who he is:

http://money.cnn.com/2008/09/12/news/companies/lehworkers_kimes/index.ht...

And you wonder why they don't let analysts talk to the media!!

My favorites are:

1.) One investment-banking analyst spoke with confidence about his job security.

"In banking, we're pretty sure we're going to get bought - and if it's by Bank of America, they're going to value bankers highly," he said. "They've got C level bankers, and Lehman has A bankers."

2.) The investment-banking analyst insisted that employees remain loyal to Fuld.

"Sure, we wish he had done what Jamie Dimon did," he said, and steered the firm away from exposure to subprime mortgages. "But he's in the office, working just like everyone else."

3.) The analyst added that he'll be laboring into the night, hoping to impress his future bosses, whoever they are.

Investing in 2008

Hey monkeys,

I wanted to get everyone's thoughts on investing in 2008, some questions I have thought about:

Are there any sectors people think are going to perform better than others?
Do you think financial stocks are SO beat down that they may be a good buy soon?

I know Merrill began telling people their numbers today. I would be interested to find out where they came in at, given that they have been one of the hardest hit firms. If you have any insight please share.

Thanks

Take the money??

Here is my question. Suppose I had an opportunity at a middle market ($300 to $500 mm)Private Equity shop in a non traditional financial market (think Indianapolis type market). After 3 years as a BB analyst I am looking to get into PE. Due to the location this firm is willing to pay top level $$ in order to attract analysts from larger markets. Should I take the $$ (Base + Bonus + Carry) in the s

Associate pay packages

I am a third year at a BB and am being considered for an Associate position. We have not talked numbers yet, but from what I have heard the standard package for first year associates is 100k base and about 40k signing bonus. Can anyone let me know if this is accurate?

Thank you

Third year analyst hours

I started my third year this past July and it has been particularly long hours ever since. After two years as an analyst I figured I understood the gig, but with the added responsibilities I have pulled all nighters in two out of the last three weeks. The hours have always been "typical I-banking hours" but at least I got to go home and sleep for about 4-5 hours a night. Can anyone tell me if this is a typical third year experience and if I need to start looking for another job that only requires 20 hour workdays?
