just started FT at a very small boutique.

There isnt much modeling, but I'm doin a lot with power point and excel in general, and I don't know any formating tricks yet...what book/learning software do people recommened I buy in order to master the navigation of these applications???

I finallllllly received an offer at a boutique in nyc. I don't know much about the process, and there's not many data points on this boutique.

I want to make sure the comp. is reasonable - got offered a 50k base (I know this is below the street), but thats it.

Is it customary to have a minimum or guaranteed bonus explicitly stated in the offer letter?

What are the pros/cons to independent research shops. It obviously depends on the shop, but just in general terms...how do they compare to sell-side research as far as training, comp, exit ops, etc.

If you are familiar with this nyc MM boutique, I would really appreciate some dialogue. I have a good idea about comp. and group size - hear there is good MM deal flow, but I am most concerned with exit opps.

Is it a good shop? If not, is it a good way to lateral? Is it possible to place into a good b-school from here?

Can someone give me an idea of the spectrum of positions that would be in a special situations/event driven group in global capital markets at a BB.

I'm curious if different groups in cap markets are generally organized by focus, thus including an array of positions from research to trading...

in other words, what positions go under this group as a whole?

Ok, I know how much people hate these ops threads, but I need someone to give me feedback. Have final rounds with a 5.5 bill aum HF tomorrow in OPs. I did an ops job before and didn't like it. The job market turmoil is playing into my decision to consider this position. I have been plugging away, networking for over a year to no avail.
