Applying for multiple divisions?

Hi All, I am applying for summer associate positions. Is it ok to apply for IBD + another division, say for example S&T or PWM? I know some banks allow that on their online apps, however I've also heard that's a big faux pas and they will immediately weed you out.

I want to apply for IBD, but in this market, I thought it will also be good to apply for something else as well.

let me know your thoughts, thanks.

Sales/Trading vs Asset Management?

Hi All, i'm an ignorant MBA with no finance experience, looking to make the switch though. The deadlines for summer internships are approaching fast, and I was wondering if I could get some insights on the comparison between asset management/PWM VS sales/trading, if I could apply for ONLY ONE. I am in particular interested in teh following questions:

1) Which one is doing better in this market (or rather, not doing as bad) in terms of jobs available?

2) If I'm looking in Asia (ie Hong Kong, etc), which one would have more potential?

3) Which one is less technical as far as interviews? I have no finance background, and simply want to get in.

4) What are the exit opps, if any, for either one?

Target bschools for M/B/B associate positions?

Hi, i'm wondering how easy or viable it is to get an associate position at Mck/Bain/BCG, after coming out of a 10-15 ranked MBA program? I am talking like Cornell/UCLA/Yale/NYU etc. I know there are a few people from those schools at M/B/B, but i would like to know if they're just lucky or is there really a significant amount of hiring from the lower ranked schools? Is it a viable path? What % of kids will get interviews if they submit a resume?

What's the difference between a BB Bank's PE division, and a major PE firm?

Hi, I'm wondering what the difference is between a major PE firm such as KKR, Blackstone, TPG, Carlyle, etc, and the Private Equity division of a bulge bracket bank (such as Goldman Sachs Capital Partners, Morgan Stanley Private Equity)?

Do they do the same things? What's the difference in terms of prestige, size (number of hires per year), competitiveness, compensation, hours, etc?

MBA candidate seeking jobs - would undergrad GPA matter?

Hi, I am going for my MBA next year. I was hoping to use it to launch a career in M/B/B management consulting or maybe even PE. My undergrad GPA was real shitty, but i have extensive work experience (not related to consulting or PE) so i'm hoping to get into a top 10-15 MBA. I thought that should be good enough to switch into MC or PE.

However, i'm thinking, when you're in MBA and recruiting for a full time job like around your second year, do you just tell companies your MBA first year GPA, or do they also take undergrad GPA into account?

Question about traveling in consulting

One of the most significant negatives about consulting is the crapload of traveling right? I was wondering, if a project is 2-3 months on an off-site, when you're there, do most firms "force" you to fly back home every weekend? Cuz if you just fly somewhere and stay there for the duration of the project, then the flying doesn't seem that bad at all? It would be once every 2-3 months?

So I am assuming that folks are "forced" by their firms to fly home every single weekend, is that why it's so bad? I don't understand, I thought the option of flying home/elsewhere is be a perk, as in optional; you can fly somewhere if you want, but if you want to stay, why would they force you to fly?
