Brown Shoes to an Interview?

I recently bought a pair of dark brown AE Park Avenue dress shoes on ebay and thought they would be good for a navy blue suit for IB interviews.

But someone was telling me that it's best to wear black shoes and only black shoes for finance interviews. Is this true?

This probably seems really petty, but i feel that theres a fine line between looking sharp and looking pretentious, and I dont want to cross it haha.

ECM or DCM?

I'm finishing up my sophomore year at a target and I have been speaking with a lot of analysts/associates in IB by heavy networking at the BB PWM office I'm currently interning at. Talking to all these people has been really helpful as I'm learning all about the different groups in IB.

For some reason, I've always been under the impression that debt markets are where you wanna be and that groups like DCM are more highly-regarded. But the last couple people I have spoken with said otherwise, that neither ECM or DCM is more prestigious, and that the international equity markets are actually bigger, and that IPOs are obviously more hyped and reported in the media than a bond issuance.

What do you guys think of this? I am pretty confident that in S&T it is considered more 'prestigious' to work with fixed income because there is so much more to know about the different securities, but does this carry over to IB as well? Thanks in advance

from what i hear, double majoring doesnt really give you an edge when going for investment banking jobs (correct me if im wrong) but it does help for MBA school

so through a program at my school (target) i will be working while taking a class for which we write essays and discuss how the work experience is going. here are my three options:

1. Merrill Lynch GPC (private wealth)
2. JPMorgan Private Banking
3. Belvedere Trading (boutique derivatives prop trading firm)

GS AM as a Sophomore

so im interviewing this week for an internship with GS Asset Management (as well as AM groups of other BB firms), and im wondering if this position would make me more competitive for a BB investment banking internship my junior year? ive always felt like IBD of companies dont really value AM/PWM experience, but would the Goldman name on my resume make a significant difference?

SEO Application-- should I bother?

so i started the SEO application a while ago and they keep sending me those automated emails saying my application is due soon. well, after last quarter my GPA kinda plummeted (got my first C in an advanced math class cuz i was planning on double majoring in math... bad idea.) so now its a measly 3.2
