Pre-MBA Career Track

What are some common career tracks for Pre-MBA's at VC/Growth Equity shops that come from a banking background? Do people usually just get their MBA's and then come back or go to a different firm? Will buyout shops hire you post-MBA or are you pigeonholed? Thanks.

VC Interview Coming Up

I know this forum isn't as popular as some of the other ones, but it's been pretty valuable to me so far and I'm hoping I can get a few good responses. I have an interview coming up for a pre-MBA Associate position with an early/mid stage VC/Growth Equity shop with a little over $500mm AUM. I have already passed multiple rounds of fit/background questions and am now going in to meet with all of the partners. My background is in banking (non-tech group)and did extremely well in UG from a semi-target. I was asked relatively thorough questions in my "second round" interview that pertained to my phone/sourcing skills as well as some of my financial abilities (was told that the modeling in VC is not too difficult and I shouldn't really have a problem with it coming from banking).

High Yield Debt Hedge Fund Interview Coming Up

I have an interview later this week with a relatively small start-up HF. All that I know about the fund is that it is Long/Short High Yield Debt. My background is one year in a MM restructuring shop. My questions are:

1) What technicals should I expect? I am familiar with credit, leverage and valuation metrics as well as modeling since that's what I did on a daily basis for the past year, but I'm not sure exactly how these types of funds move in and out of positions and the kind of diligence that they do since I've never been on the buyside before.

2) What are some good answers on why you would want to move to a HF from banking? I realize I should know this but most of the stuff I can come up with is kinda b/s (ie objective performance measures, better understanding of markets, interest in fixed income etc.)

Multiple GMAT Questions

1) How much time should I budget to prepare (I'm taking it this summer)? I will not be taking a course, just buying some books. I'm a very good standardized test taker so I just need to get some practice. I do want to get a great score though so I was wondering how long people with similar traits to these studied before they sat for it.

2) How does signing up for the test work? Do I have to sign up far in advance or when I decide I'm ready can I just sign up for like the next day?

My specific consulting vs. IB situation

Currently I'm weighing two job offers, one of which expires soon 1/2 weeks. One is from top 10 mgmt consulting firm, other is from boutique IB in my city (non NY). To give you my perspective, I think the day to day work/ exposure of consulting is more interesting, but I really like a somewhat normal routine so I dunno if I could handle the travel. The offer from the bank is VERY generous (70 + 10) and the people there are really cool.
