Hey guys,

The BB's in Australia are in a virtual hiring freeze at the moment (every single bb taking less than 5 except Macbank) so I'd pretty much given up on banking for now. I've received a couple of offers to do tax consulting at the big 4 accounting firms which I was very happy with, but suddenly out from nowhere I get offered a graduate position in Westpac Institutional Bank. The job description is as follows (My offer is in the CIB stream, 2 rotations in CIB and 1 in DCM/Hastings):

The type of work you might do within CIB, Equities and DCM/Hastings includes:

CIB:
Analyse the performance of customers and prospective customers, determine if they are a risk or an asset, and prepare reports on your findings
Assist in writing sector review and strategy papers
Assist customers in their trade, foreign currency and payment transactions and debt solutions

Hey guys, I've been looking around banks career sites and getting confused as they seem to use the following terms interchangably. What's the difference between fund management, asset management, wealth management and investment management?

BB Analyst to PE, just how competitive?

Generally speaking in the current economic environment, how competitive is it to go from an analyst at a BB to PE? I don't mean the top PE firms like KKR but those that pay similar to BB analyst positions with better lifestyle. Is it as competitive as getting into a BB from undergrad (i.e. top 1% of cohort) or are PE firms climbing over each other for middle bucket analysts?

What's everyone's opinion on the recent PE boom in Australia? Is it likely to die down such that only the very top ib analysts from bb's will stand a chance of getting in or will it maintain its momentum such that medicore analysts or even non ib'ers will be sought after?

The reason I ask is that most people I know who scored a summer internship in ib are the energetic, outgoing types who always manage to get super enthusastic on every little thing i.e. the ones who talk the most when in a group.
