What's your biggest weakness?

If you say "I am a perfectionist" or "I try to take on too much responsibility and challenge myself to the fullest"...I'm pretty sure that's a 100% DING

What are some legit/creative answers to approach this BS question?

Once I said I'm pretty laid back, bc at the end of the day, whatever the fuck happens, I'm still breathing and shit's a-okay. Got the offer. (of course, this wasn't for IB)

Pretty much worthless. Still getting $.1055 per share...will it ever go higher than the recent resistance levels ($.14-$.16) or am I pretty much f*&(ed and should just get what I can?

Thanks in advance

Licenses/Degrees for Trading?

Hi all,

Just wondering if traders (flow traders, not like asset managers/portfolio managers) have licenses/degrees from bschool.

I dont see the need for an MBA, but how about CFA?

Of course other than the Series 7 and 63 obviously

thanks

Quick Question Regarding GPA

Hi All,

I am helping a friend fix up his/her resume. The GPA is not high, ~2.5. However, the resume will not be for any IB/S&T spots...more for Operations/BO Finance/Whatever.

I am wondering if I should have him/her leave the GPA on with a 2.5 or get rid of it entirely.

I ask because I know some banks just straight up toss it out without a GPA, but a 2.5 would probably be a red flag as well. Some experience would be a Wealth Management gig at Merrill.

Again, this isn't for FO spots, so I am assuming it wouldn't be AS bad regardless.

Thanks in advance

Smaller Day Trading Shops

Hi All,

I am currently seeking some advice regarding how I can break into the Trading industry. I am from a non-target with a less than stellar GPA (3.3; 3.8 w/out Pharmacy Freshman Year). Had internships in Siemens Tax Dept, BlackRock Ops, and Lehman Finance.

While I know I have a better chance flying out my window and punching a squirrel in the nut than I do landing a Trading gig at a top BB, I am seeking to join a smaller/boutique shop or perhaps get into trade support for a HF/PE firm.

I was hoping to get some advice as to which shops I can look into. Is there perhaps a list by region? I do not think I would, unless really necessary, move outside of the East Coast. Furthermore, if the smaller shop doesn't work, how can I get into a HF/PE firm's Back Office? The sources I check (SimplyHired, Doostang, eFinancialCareers) usually list only BB firms. I hardly see any MM/HF/PE firms.

Please Take a Minute to Give Some Advice...

Hello all,

From a non-target, 3.3 GPA, Ops and Finance internships at blackrock/lehman respectively.

My plan is to...Full-time, do 2 years in Risk (credit or market), then move into portfolio analytics for 3 years?(or however long the years are usually), and then go into trading?

Is this a possible path?

Which degrees will help more? CFA? MSF?

And i don't mean trading at a sell-side firm, more like buy-side/AM/IM like BlackRock?

Please provide some advice, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

How Many Monitors???

Do you have?

I saw a trader with 6, 4 in the bottom row, 2 above the center 2. I don't know if that is really necessary, but I am sure it is. I googled and found some peoples with 8-24 screens. What the heck do you do with the 18+ screens when you can only stare at 6 at a time?

Using all of your knowledge and whatnot, please provide an estimate of the optimal number of monitors needed for a day trader, say at top tier BB. Use models, equations, BS, guesswork, or asking your little brother. That's how the real traders do it on Wall Street.

Would like some advice...

So I am ruling out ibanking as an option full time since I am non-target, 3.3 GPA, and only have had BO and MO gigs at BlackRock + Lehman.

Anyways, I would like to get into risk, perhaps market or counterparty risk. It is a BIT less technical, because I do not have a superior strong quant/programming background. Anyways...my hopes would be to do 2 years in risk, perhaps move to portfolio analytics at a BB for 3 years, and the move to do research and stuff at a PE firm. Is this a possible path? (I will seek to get a MSF or MBA along the way)

Furthermore, would someone be kind enough to lay down the structures to a PE firm and where else on can possibly do there? I know I won't be able to be in the front and do the gangster deals, but I'd like a "less" stressful job, with decent hours, and nice pay.

Do I have a chance? :) Thanks in advance
