Need help with revenue assumptions and forecast!

Hi,

Need help creating a revenue forecast for a web start up that is similar to the business model of ebay. This site does not have any listing fees.

This has to be projected 3 years out. So after the first year, how would I get the 2 and 3 revenue? Should I just use an average growth rate from other comparable websites?

For revenue assumptions I have:

A) Sell through rates for other auctioning websites regarding listings.
B) User base growth for first year of business from one comparable websites.

Basically what i did was take the user base for that comparable website in its first year and divided by the number of days in a year to get the user growth per day. Thus allowing me to get potential user base each month to base my revenue off. Is this correct?

The beginning to the end of Goldman Sachs?

Goldman Sachs considered the shining star of investment banks is faltering bad.

-Forgoes bonuses for top executives
-Analyst are predicting first quarterly loss since going public
-A stock that now trades at $53 which erases more than 10 years of gain

Is this the beginning to end of Goldman Sachs and Investment banking as we know it? Can someone shed some light on this. Goldman faltering this bad disrupts the order of the universe.

What a shitty investment for Warren Buffet. My rationale for Warrens decision was not becuase Goldman was a good buy at the time but was only to in still confidence in the market. It was simply to prevent his other holdings from falling in share price in the event Goldman was not able to rasie capital.

Goldman Sachs always comes out the winner!!

"But the shrinkage of the Goldman Sachs Group Inc. bonus pool is another. Whatever else the Treasury achieves it must know that if the employees of Goldman suffer any sort of pay cut, it will be judged to have failed. And our country may never recover."

"Last year Goldman paid its employees $20 billion, 44 percent of the firm's revenue. Chief Executive Officer Lloyd Blankfein took home $68.5 million, and many otherwise ordinary human beings took home $10 million or more."

"This inspired young people everywhere, many of whom may have privately wondered whether it was still worth their time to become investment bankers. Torn between a future in, say, the law and the manufacture of mezzanine CDOs they sucked up their courage and plunged onto Wall Street. And thank God for that: We needed the best and the brightest to get us into this mess, and we'll need the best and the brightest to get us out of it."

I guess its bye bye to High Banking Salaries

Goldman, Morgan to Become Full-Fledged Banks

"The move fundamentally changes one of the mainstay models of modern Wall Street, the independent investment bank, soon after the federal government unveiled the biggest market intervention since the New Deal. It heralds new regulations and supervision of previously lightly regulated investment banks, as well as an end to the outsized paychecks that underpinned the traditional image of the chest-thumping Wall Street banker."

News Corp M & A and Disney Strategic Group

I have searched the forum for this particular topic but could not find much info. I wanted to get everyones thoughts and answers to the below questions.

A) What is the typical route into these positions? Can you enter straight from undergrad or do you have to go through 2 years of banking/consulting?

B)What is the salary, perks, and bonuses(if there is)? Would these positions give you comparable salaries to banking/consulting or would it be a significant step down in pay?

C)How difficult is it to land a position?

D)As well, what sort of exit ops will a position in one of these groups give you?

E)Just based on reading some posts on these groups, their is much prestige associated with them. Why is this, and would working in one of these groups be looked on more favorably than banking/consulting?

Thanks!

Just how powerful is the HBS brand?

I wanted to get the sense from eveyone of just how powerful the HBS brand really is. I read and hear many things such as:

1. HBS can get you any job around the world.
2. Allow you to easily raise capital for a start up venture
3. The ability to easily get girls by just dropping the name. (Small excerpt from articel)

"In the Boston area, Harvard MBAs are considered the best possible catch for young women, and the so-called Harvard effect holds sway over the rest of the world as well. Trading on the HBS aura is known as “dropping the H-bomb,” and the HBSer on the prowl will find it an effective weapon on anyone from cocktail waitresses to Wellesley students to MBAs of lesser schools."

and many more!

What do you guys think? Is the HBS brand that powerful whereby any mention of the name will put you a significant advantage over another.

Can the same be said for Wharton and Stanford?

LA or NYC? Which is better?

I wanted to find out from current bankers which city is better to work in, in terms of:

1. cost of living (i.e which city is more expensive)
2. lifestyle (i.e work and fun/family balance)
3. BB pay (i.e which city pays more or are they the same)
4. Exit opps

I have not been to any of these cities, but I hear LA is beautiful. Can any current LA bankers verify this?
