Boutiques - easier to break in?

Save for the elite few, are boutique banks easier to break into versus a BB on Wall Street? By break into, I mean to initially get hired on as an analyst (straight from undergrad) or as an associate (straight from MBA).

Associate Work Experience

I'll be attending the University of Washington and majoring in Finance. I'm concerned that a B.A. from UW, though it's ranked 25th in the country for business undergrad, may not be enough to land me an analyst position. That being said, I will be pursuing an MBA after I get some work experience and will be aiming for the top schools.

How many of you came into the Associate position from an MBA? More specifically, how many of you came from an MBA and with no prior analyst experience?

What kind of job(s) did you have between getting your BA and applying for your MBA program? Were you at a target MBA school?

Lastly, how did you find the work environment when you finally did come in as an Associate?

From reading the board, it looks like many internships are at branch locations. Anyone have any experience as an intern in Seattle?

BA to Analyst/MBA to Associate

A BA in Finance is where I'm headed. To come in as an Analyst, does this need to be earned at a highly competitive school?

Also, the general vibe that I'm getting is that to come in as an Associate, one needs an MBA from a Top 40 school. Can someone confirm or deny this?

I know there are exceptions to every rule, so I'm interested in what the realistic minimum requirements are.
