If you could offer only one piece of advice

So many people are wrapping up with their summer internships or starting as a FT, if you had to offer someone ONLY ONE piece of advice to someone about how to have a sucessful internship/FT analyst experience what would it be?

SEC to enforce Naked Short Sales in Certain stocks

Suprised this has not been brought up yet. As of monday the SEC will be strictly enforcing the rules on naked shorts on a select group of financial stocks which include the primary dealers in government securities + Fannie & Freddie.

In general this should have a positive impact on these financials because traders will not be able to rodeo drive down a price without first locating the shares to be borrowed. Some names are very difficult to borrow in. I think from the overall markets perspective this will be a good thing but from a trader/specialist/market makers point of view its simply a big pain in the ass unless you have somehow been granted an exception.

Interesting article from Seeking alpha regarding the situation going on with Fannie and Freddie. Gives a great explanation of whats going on and is very easy to follow for those not keeping up with the story.

What makes a good trader?

I have found wso to be in general very academic when it comes to trading, but also very quant based. The general theme is that more math = more money. Honestly I feel this is just not the case. Markets are nothing more than the average of all market participant beliefs at a given time. The market is never wrong, it is always right. That does not mean that significant risk adjusted returns cannot be achieved.

I pose this question to all of wso - What makes a good trader?

Does anyone know any solid links for learning bloomberg API. I am starting to make some models/tools but I am sort of slow at picking up learning bloomberg.

So far I have found

http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/MFE/download/api_seminar.pdf

It seems pretty good but im having trouble learning how to use things like the calculation overrides.

Lehman, The Next Bear Stearns?

Could someone please explain the current situation at Lehman and how it related to what happened at Bear Stearns. Just how much trouble is Lehman in right now?

The fact that Callen is staying at the company just moving from her CFO back to a senior IBD role is interesting. I really would love everyones thoughts on this situation as it continues to unwind. I think the stock is down like 40% this week.

Goals

So Im moving to nyc on sunday and I was transferring a bunch of files to my external hard drive when i came across a file labeled "goals 2007". So i opened it and looked it over and i ended up achieving 7 of the 9 goals that I had set out for myself.

I was curious as to if anyone here has done the same and has written goals. Sure we are all motivated people atleast about our careers otherwise we wouldnt use this forum, but how many of you actually take the time to write out goals for yourself. Are there something that is just subconsciously there or do you write them down.

Sort of a strange subject but I was curious as to other users and how they handled this.
