Business School

Hey all,

I need some advice with regards to Business School. I am from the UK and am starting as a 1st year analyst in London this coming July.

Just so it is very clear - in London the IB process is different from NY, business school is 100% not a requirement for promotion- in fact most firms actually encourage the analyst to complete their 3rd year and proceed onto the Associate position. This being the case, business school is not necessary for me - but I wonder would it act as a catalyst for faster promotions in the future....and would a lack of an MBA make it less likely to reach the higher / more senior banker roles?

I am fairly confident that I can get into HBS for the class of 2012 - and wonder is it worth the $$$$ and the time taken out of employment?

Your thoughts will be appreciated.

After such a shitty year I was curious as to what a first year analyst would be expecting in terms of bonus % of base ?

Say for a top bucket, mid bucket and a bottom bucket - anyone know??

Hey guys. I was just wondering where would an analyst at a restructuring / special situations shop go after ....

Of course one may stay on in the services industry and continue onto an associate or vp position. However if you wanted to move to the buy side - would it be a distressed debt hedge fund or a distressed PE shop that your skills would be most aligned to?

I was just wondering who has been on HLHZ Analyst Training program in New York?
I am heading over on the 20th of July for 3 weeks from London but I am not sure what to expect.....

Can anyone give feedback on what to expect - ie hard work or is it more social?
Will they give much time to explore NY?
Casual or Formal?
Where are the apartments that they put you up ?

I was wondering what sort of bonus a 1st year analyst would expect from a good restructuring firm starting this year? of course restructuring firms will be very busy this year - can anyone give me a ball park figure??

Prestige Vs. Culture

Hey guys -

I find myself in a situation where I have the choice between a very prestigious firm with an excellent Brand name and a firm that has a lesser reputation with a really really good culture (the guys I met there seemed very cool and easy going).

Which should one choose - any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What do you guys think - I had organised a telephone interview with Blackstones and they did not call! I waited 3 hours for them to call but no word........what should I do? I understand the guys must be extremely busy - but I found this strange.
