Are the stereotypes true?

In a Vanity Fair article about the collapse of Bear Stearns, the writer personified a few of the BB banks.

" There’s the big, backslapping Irishman, Merrill Lynch, the humorless grind, Goldman Sachs, and the straitlaced rich kid, Morgan Stanley. And then, off in the corner, wearing its beat-up leather jacket and nursing a cigarette, was the tough-guy loner, scrawny Bear Stearns..."

Do you all find these stereotypes to be true today? And what are some of your own? Feel free to add more banks to the list.

Recommendations

Hey, does anyone have any recommendations for boutiques or MM with great public finance/municipal securities groups?

I know Citi and some of the other Bulge Brackets Banks have good divisions but with little experience in finance, I also wanted to look elsewhere.

And are the interviews for summer analyst positions specifically for public finance or does that fall under IB in general?

Thanks.
