Consultancy Culture vs IBD

Started applying for Strategy Consulting and just wanted to know something.

Now i've worked in IBD for a summer and saw loads of analyst and one associate getting shouted at and humiliated by MD's...

Just wanted to know whether this also occured in Strategy Consultancy? (McKinsey/Deloitte/LEK/Oliver Wyman etc)

Or are Strategy Consultants more "friendlier" down to earth people?

Day-to-Day Resources

Hey...

Just wanted to know what resources you guys use on a day-to-day basis within IBD..

From my summer internship, I was using the bloomberg terminal alongside factiva, onesource, mergermarket (also the usual excel/powerpoint/word/outlook).

On my CV i've already said im competent at Office and Bloomberg. Just wanted to know whether it was worth mentioning Factiva/Mergermarket/OneSource or are these insignificant (and ill look like an idiot!)

Can someone clarify something please. I was under the impression that BarCap did not do M&A advisory until I went onto there website and saw the following..

What is the role mentioned above (investment banking) in traditional terms?

I've just completed my 8 week summer internship at a second tier investment bank (think Abn Amro, BarCap) in M&A (natural resources sector team) only to be told that they have a freeze on hiring for my particular desk.

I just wanted to know that when applying for IBD next month for FT would I be looked at as a XXXX Reject (someone who couldnt even get hired by a second tier investment bank), and in that case throw my CV away?

I'd like to hear from people that have taken some part in selecting students whether you are an analyst/associate etc.

It's something thats been on my mind over the weekend and just wanted some sort of clarification whether HR/firms think in the same way!

Appreciate your comments and time.

Time it took you to get your head around the modelling!?

Just completed my first week as a SA in London. Just wanted to know how long it took you guys whether previous SA's or normal Analysts to get your head around the concepts, valuations and modelling.

It seems like a lot of information to take in, process and remember (especially as I have done no finance modules at uni).

Just wanna know how underprepared I am, or whether I am in a similar position to others (if you remember your first week). My exams at uni finished a week before i started, so didnt have much time to prepare..

Ok, so i've managed to land myself a summer internship at MAcquarie for Corporate Finance. Ill be put in an industry team that do both origination and execution (M&A, ECM).

Now my concern, how is Macquarie seen in the IB world. I know they are very strong in infrastructure/utilities.

"How do you value an airport? Walk me through DCF and P/E".

Would you just talk through how you compose a DCF model in detail and then finally how the P/E ratio is formed and what it means?
