Is the buy-side base salary lower than the sell-side at the junior level?

Hello guys, I'll be joining as a entry-level analyst at a local AM firm (at their multi-strategy HF team) in an Asian country ex-HK and SG (Think Japan, Korea, Taiwan, ...) The entry-level peers at sell-side seem to get almost as twice more salary as me pre-tax, so I was curious that if that were common in more sophisticated financial hubs. My eventual goal was to land to buy-side, preferrably in the HF world, so I'll cope with the salary but just want two cents from you guys. Thx
