Transitioning from AM to IB

Hi Everybody,
So I currently sit in the business development side in a pretty big AM firm. I enjoy what I have been learning especially the business/front office aspect of the firm. I have been putting together investment pitches, constructing allocation of funds, etc. My true ambition is to break into IB. I know that I would have be very adept at modeling (dcf, precedent transaction, etc). I currently have no experience in modeling but am willing to learn. How hard do you think the transition from AM to IB is? Is it impossible? What would the exit opp be in the position i am in?
footnote: I plan on working here for atleast 2-3 more years.
