Hey guys im currently in a long internship
in financial advisory (NPE management for Private Equity firms, Insolvency and Corporate Restructuring) for the past 1.5 years in the consulting department of a big 10 company.
I have some questions regarding going into consulting (Best Company Choice and MSc path probably strategic management).
I will be going for a masters degree outside of my country (Currently in Cyprus) in a semi-target EU university (Copenhagen business school, Stockholm business school, erasmus rotterdam, uni of amsterdam)
Can someone share an insight as to what i will be working towards when i arrive at that country?
Thanks and feel free to comment brainstorming And knowledge sharing !
Some valuable insights
P.S: Cyprus might be an extremely small island but i believe my consulting experience in NPE (Non Performing Exposures) is valuable since we are amongst the countries with the most NPL per capita in Europe.
Also i have 10/13 (9 exemptions + 1 Professional) ACCA papers passed simultaneously with my Bachelors Degree (if this is even considered in the consulting world abroad)
My bachelors is in accounting and finance from a complete non target school for MBB ranked #800 in the world world, UK uni. Aiming for (1:1, currently at 2:1 upper but slightly below 1:1)
If anyone can help me with guidance as to what masters to aim for,
which companies to aim for,
which countries to aim for and share experiences from Consulting Companies abroad would be really appreciated !
Hey man,
I have to immediately apologise, because I genuinely do not understand what you're asking here. I don't know what you mean by "Can someone share an insight as to what i will be working towards when i arrive at that country?"
So, instead I will answer what I think you are asking, which is
In case this isn't what you're asking, then please do clarify, and I'll take another stab at it. So, in asnwer to the questions above, I'l give brief answers, let me know if you want me to deep dive on any specific topic:
Now more generally, if you want to make it in strategy consulting, you'll definitely need to be crystal clear and structured in your comms. I know this is an informal forum, but you're asking for help from people who are rather busy and have pretty short attention spans (as an example, Im writing this at work and it's 10:15pm and I really was on the fence about ignoring it because of the structure and the first 2 paragraphs).
Thanks brother. Its just the fact that english is not my first language and i really dont know what to ask because im confused and all…
Either way i really appreciate your advice.
out of sheer curiosity, pls can you define what you mean by 'great work experience + extracurriculars'. examples would be great! i come from London if it helps
It is good that you have some experience but tbh job market is very tough... esp most of the restructuring-related jobs are local content-driven (You need to speak the local language, and people would expect you to have some linkage with the local culture/market)
I would suggest going for RSM/UvA and aiming for Big 4
