Advice for Corporate Finance/Strategy/Development at a Tech Company vs Other Options

Background: I am a current sophomore soon to be junior at a top Canadian university. I have a degree in commerce however I plan on specializing in finance for the remaining two years. This summer I have a CF internship at a large international company. Interest wise I like technology and enjoy reading up on trends.

The dilemma: I'm still a bit unsure of where I'd like to go as I am trying to weigh all the options and am relatively risk averse. In my first year I looked into IB and realized that the lifestyle wasn't for me and that I liked the work content more of ER. At the moment I still very much like ER, and would especially like to work on the tech industry. I understand that this is a bit of a stretch given how the industry places new associates and that you just take what you can get. Here is where I started to also look into CF/CS/CD at other tech companies (Blizzard Activision, Google, etc.). I feel as if I would like the content of work and that it would overall be a safer bet recruiting wise (especially given how ER has been recently). I am still going to do my best to get into ER but I do not want to close any doors given how difficult it may be to get in. I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me with the following:

  1. Is recruiting for CF/CS/CD at a company like Blizzard Activision similar to ER/IB recruiting? Meaning, should I network heavily this summer? How is recruiting different/same for this path?
  2. How is work content in these positions for such companies? Career progression and pay compared to ER?
  3. Is the work culture different at these companies given the industry they are in? This is one of my 'pulls' towards this path since I'm a tech guy.

Thank you for all the help!
