Whining

Just whining a bit. I applied to an ER associate position within my specialty and got feedback about a week later. They want my grades, GRE, and even SAT scores.
I've been out of college ten years and have a PhD in the field they're looking for. Maybe it's arrogant to think so, but really...standardized test scores?

I’m guessing this guy has a PhD in a quantitative or medical/bio field. I think it’s insulting to ask a guy like that for his test scores. It’s like asking an English professor to take the TOEFL.

OP: Don’t take it personally though – HR has protocol to follow. Welcome to the corporate world.

Hmmmmm...

As crazy as this sounds, where did you get your PhD from? It sounds like a corporate veiled slap in the face...

Ivy undergrad in engineering discipline and I honestly don't remember my GPA so I had to order transcripts. Top 5 state med school for PhD.

The email requesting the grades and scores made it clear that the HR person hadn't read my resume. Asked for undergrad and/or MBA grades and gmat scores as well. Definitely just going through the steps in my opinion.

dont forget that they are HR. in my experience HR ppl are very insecure and feel the need to put others down in order to convince themselves that they aren't of below average intelligence (which they are)

i fucking hate HR ppl

You need to learn how to use people to your advantage. Can HR be a pain to work with? Absolutely. But they can also be an asset. I banged an HR chick a few years ago, (sidenote: the box was absolutely delightful) and you know what I was able to uncover? She let me in on all the salary and bonus figures of the other analysts in my department/group. When it was time to have the yearly conversation with my boss about salary, I knew exactly how much to ask for...

Now you don't have to bang em', but a little convo and flattery can provide you with just the right amount of leverage. Learn to use it.
