Wardrobe Recommendations

Going to be starting IB FT in NYC this summer, and starting to put my closet together.

Would love recommendations on suits, dress shirts, dress pants, shoes, ties, and belts.

Very focused on comfort > luxury. Learned the hard way last summer.

Have a budget of 3k all-in on the revamp. Was hoping to spend 400 max per suit, and 300 max per shoe.

Bought an indochino suit for like $400 and pants ripped 6 months in. Perhaps this was due to too many leg days, but either way the quality is most definitely just okay

First of, know your fit and measurements.. I only buy when items are on discount,

Suits and Jackets: Spier and Mackay (I always buy when on discount) - I pay about 400 per suit and 300 for sport jacket - So maybe budget $1200 here

Shirts: Brooks Brothers and Spier and Mackay. Various whites and blues, maybe add one or two pastels/colors - Average is $65 a shirt, get 8 (two of which OBCS to dress casual) - $520

Pants: Bonobos Chino (original) and Lulu commission - Both are very casual, but I often pair with OBCD shirt, sport jacket, and loafers. Also Boss or Brooks Brothers for dress pants. Say 2 chinos and 2 dress pants - Budget $700 here

Shoes: Allen Edmonds, get an oxford and a loafer (bit or penny, not driving) - Get two in brown, maybe an additional oxford in black, average $350 a shoe, $1050. I've experimented with direct to consumer (meermin and such) and AE quality was still better for the price.. If you're going north of 400 there are better options here.. You can also go to Nordstrom rack and get some To Boot New York to save a little, but I still prefer AE.

Belts: Nordstrom Rack, get two matching the shoes.. $100 here..

Total here is $3570, but super easy to scale back to 3k.

How's the fit on CT? My problem with them when I tried them back in 2015 or so is that the "trim" (whatever it's called now) fit had big armholes (they do that to save cost) which makes the shirt ride up everytime you raise your hands..

Properly sized armholes are ESSENTIAL for a fit that is comfortable and continues to look good throughout the day, this includes jackets/suits.

+1 for Allen Edmonds. Still own a pair of Park Aves I got as a sophomore in college (been resoled twice). Get sized in store if you're new to brand - some shoes come in 6+ widths. They have a Memorial Day sale going currently and usually have something for 4th of July and Columbus Day as well. Never pay close to full price for AE unless it's a trunk show special order.
