Hey all - I’ve been keeping tabs on a couple companies at a generalist level for potential pitch ideas. Let’s say I were talking to a consumer PM at an MM, would it be ok to pitch an industrials or TMT name?

I think it is generally ok to pitch a name outside of the PM's sector depending on situation. My take is that it may in fact sometimes be in your interest to do that - pitching a name that the PM is already close to or has an opinion on is dangerous, as the risk is you miss something major that they have a view a on, and the reward of having a super differentiated call that is well substantiated (and he knows nothing about) is a very low probability. High risk/high reward, but the probability is not in your favor.
