Strategies that highly value a law degree?
I'm a 1L at Harvard, and have been really interested in the fusion of law and finance for a while. Having spent a summer as a summer associate, I find myself wanting to search out the prospects on the client side rather than helping out once decisions have already been made. What are some areas of finance wherein a law degree is considered a value-added? I'm interested generally in public markets, and at the moment primarily distressed debt / RX and secondarily shareholder activism.
Distressed would certainly be the big one. Particularly a place like Aurelius

Not really. They look for experienced litigators, not recent graduates.
disagree. there are hedge funds that work with pirate crews of litigation finance originators and finance the acquisition of cases which are mixed into a pool of assets. Any one with a law degree would be valued at such firm. Also disagree again as I've worked with lit finance firms which hire straight out of law school.
Some firms, sure maybe not.

Everyone hates lawyers, it’s pretty universal. Need I say more?
I hear Axe Capital pays lawyers very well, particularly if you have connections to the SEC.
