Can I break in from Central Asia?
Basically what the subject line says. I am looking to break into IB in Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, etc) because I am originally from there and US IB recruitment doesn't look promising for me (I am a junior at a non-target). How likely am I to break into a US IB by leveraging IB experience from Central Asia?
Can't really give any pointers, but just wanna say I love nazarbayev, islam karimov, askar akayev, emmomali rahmon, and saparmurat niyasov
I'm from a village called Kusek in Kazakhstan, you aren't alone my friend!
Jagshemash!
You'll likely need to do a US MBA if you want to come back to the US. Central Asia work experience (really anything outside of China/Japan) is going to be heavily discounted for US roles. Can also try to work for a US company in Hong Kong and then come over as an internal transfer on the L1 visa
Realistically your current spot is the best place to be. Pick up an extra minor and delay graduation so you are a sophomore... another chance at recruiting. I would recommend taking a random finance job in the US over IB in Kazakhstan if you ultimately want to be in the US
