I think I might be new money
Kind of panicking. I've always seen myself as old money given my family has wealth up to my grand-parents. Grew up in the most tasteful neighborhoods, wearing the most understated clothing etc. Never saw new money as a good thing as those guys usually wear tacky clothes and drive Mercedes or BMW type cars.
But I recently met some European kids who said I was new money. They have wealth dating back from the Dutch East India Company and it makes me feel really insecure. They said two generations isn't enough to be old money. Is this true? With this whole old money aesthetic trend people are accusing me of frauding old money. This is alarming. How do I cope?

bro, come on, I will take the post seriously and say, it doesn't really matter. The most powerful people in the world today are new money (think Larry Fink, Carl Icahn, Elon Musk, most forbes list billionaires). Old money aesthetic looks cool and you can be into the aesthetic without actually being "old money". But most "old money" types are losers compared to their actual grandparents. Think of the Rockefellers for example. Modern Rockefellers don't hold a fraction of the power that their great-grandpa had, and Rockefeller was in no way a sophisticated man. He was a ruthless brute who had no time for aesthetics. Most "old money" today drive the same cars, wear the same clothes as their new money peers. the aesthetic is fake.
The old money aesthetic is racist and eurocentric, like wealth/sophisticated families can't exist outside of Europe 🙄
Anyway, this is a stupid thread. If you're really that upset and want to make yourself feel better, just tell them that at least your money didn't come from Indonesian indentured servants/slaves.
And also, drop this superiority complex. "Old money"/middle class/upper-middle class is about values much more than it is how much money or wealth you have sitting around.
Old Money exists in every nation throughout history, no one here is claiming otherwise. You appear to just resent European people.

You're not "old money", champ. Did your grandparents even go to university? Does your family even value higher education? If the answer is "no", then I think we all know what/who we're looking at!

Me in particular or old money people? I don't have any enemies. I try to be discrete with my wealth and usually don't flaunt it. Thought I'd post here since it's anonymous. Kind of an outlet since you can't talk about this in real life without drawing irrational ire.
