Private Equity Advisory ???

I just had an interview with a very small (fewer than 10 people) private equity advisory firm. The firm identifies profitable private equity funds and helps clients invest in them.

Job description:
The firm’s activities cover the private equity landscape, including buyouts, venture capital, growth equity, and other sub-sectors (mezzanine, distressed, infrastructure, energy, etc). The Associate will support due diligence on private equity funds, assist the team with industry research, and participate in other activities of the investment team. This position will require a well-rounded skill set as this asset class requires a combination of analytical due diligence, strong intellectual curiosity, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Specific skills required include: • Strong quantitative / analytical skills. • Superior Excel skills for financial analysis, including IRR analysis. • Business writing. • Preparation of concise business and manager analytical reports. • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize. • Interpersonal skills and the ability to work as team member or independently. • Ability to interact with important institutional clients. • Desire to work in a small office and in an entrepreneurial atmosphere.

Any thoughts? I was mostly curious about how I could leverage this position into other jobs after short stint (1 or 2 years). Also, how would this look for MBA schools?

no i haven't been offered the job. i just went in for interviews.

i'm not sure what kind of experiences i could expect at a firm like this. i don't know much about private equity but from what i do know, the positions people talk about involve the fund itself, working at a place that identifies and executes investments of various sorts. this position seems to be the opposite - representing clients to identify private equity funds in which to invest in.
