My sign on bonus at a BB was 10k, but after taxes it ended up closer to 6k.
What does BB and MM stand for? I have always been wondering and hope someone can enlighten me...
Anyways, that's about right. I've got a friend who was offered 10k at Barclays Capital, and another friend at Goldman who was offered 10k as well. Hope these info is of help to you guys.
BB = Bulge Bracket MM = Middle Market
Yeah, 10k seems to be the going rate right now...not too shabby at all.
5K but in Houston with an energy boutique
10k sign on will get taxed over 40%, leaving you with around 6K. Lets say you find an apartment for 1500 (that's being EXTREMELY conservative in NY). Broker fees - 2700, first/last month rent + security deposit = 4500
=7200. Congrats, you're already 1200 in the hole and you haven't worked a day. Might as well learn to grab your ankles before you even begin...
so true
who da heck pays broker fees?
Yes, 10k at Citi.
15k if you sign on early at Citi
NYC has less than 1% vacancy, and a bunch of residential buildings have standing relationships with brokers and won't even rent to you unless you go through one. Sure, you can double back and rent an apartment that a broker just showed you, but don't be surprised if you have crazy glue in your locks every day and the doorman mistakenly loses your packages, dry cleaning, etc...
