Third year analyst hours

I started my third year this past July and it has been particularly long hours ever since. After two years as an analyst I figured I understood the gig, but with the added responsibilities I have pulled all nighters in two out of the last three weeks. The hours have always been "typical I-banking hours" but at least I got to go home and sleep for about 4-5 hours a night. Can anyone tell me if this is a typical third year experience and if I need to start looking for another job that only requires 20 hour workdays?

i think as a 3rd year analyst you are currently qualifying yourself as an Associate(i.e. if you do good you might get an offer to continue on as an associate)

  • as a 3rd year you are the most knowledgeble analyst, so everyone wants you to do their work

I spoke to a 3rd year analyst yesterday and thats what I got out of it

it depends...if the bank looks at you as a possible direct-promote associate, then the hours will continue with the added responsibility.

if the bank doesn't, then hours will decrease. right now you are just auditioning for the associate position.

I know that Associates have more responsibility but it seems to me that the hours are much better than that of an Analyst. If nothing else by the mere fact that they do not have to do all the tedious crap work that is designated to the Analyst level. After I make it through the trial by fire and possibly get promoted, is there a light at the end of the tunnel or is it a train?

probably around 3rd year as an associate, you'll have better hours. Provided you don't put a bullet thru your head by then
