Which Investment Banking Group is Wise to join?
I'm currently in the placement process to join an IB group. Personally, I am interested in Lev Finance/Financial Sponsors Group because of the opportunity to build skills and networks to transition to PE. However, I am split between M&A, TMT, and RE because they seem to be very active groups and sometimes recession-proof. Any advice on how to properly research each group and what to consider when deciding about each group?
Not sure I can fully answer your question, but I am not sure if there are any truly recession proof groups in the world
Good infra groups are pretty recession proof - but their deal flow definitely slows a bit done during recessions. Just not as much as other groups.
Bump
is this for SA or FT? What bank is even doing group placement right now
Sounds a lot like BofA
None of the groups you named are very recession proof. Definitely not TMT and RE--M&A maybe more so
FIG and HC are likely to be more recession proof if that's what you're looking for
The problem is that LevFin/FS/M&A are the most sought after groups across the board, so it likely won't be up to you to decide specifically which group you get unless you're a target whose very well connected
HC coverage recession proof but also boring 😅
