Acquiring an analyst position

Guys,

How do the larger, more reputable banks look upon a recent graduate applying for an analyst position? I have a very solid GPA from an excellent school and good experience. After considerable, thought, I've decided I'd like to pursue a stint in banking. Any thoughts are welcome.

Cheers

For someone who isn't even an i-banker, you seem to be pretty self-aggrandizing.

It's unfortunate that not all of us can have your scope knowledge acquired by hours and hours of lurking.

a lurker is someone who reads but doesnt post. I post :) And that information can be read in any book about investment banking interviews etc.

I graduated in May '06 and have a job at a commercial real estate lender. The pay is fine and the hours are great, but I don't feel like I'm being challenged as I would be if I were working for an i-bank. Also, I'm afraid of the general notion that job growth/advancement in commercial banking is notoriously slow and unrewarding.

I have a 3.45 and majored in financial economics from a semi-target (Top 10 liberal arts school). What are my chances of getting into a BB? 1st tier? west coast?

does anyone know how heavily ones GPA is weighed in measuring the merits of a candidate? This relative to the school and work experiences the candidate also holds.
