From Big 4 to Asset Management - Due Diligence Or Valuation ?

Hi,

Before jumping into the question, let me introduce myself.

I'm currently working at a Big Four in Belgium in the Consulting department (not in a Finance-related field tho) and I have the opportunity to make an internal move towards the Financial Advisory Department (i.e., TS or Valuation & Modelling). The thing is, my goal here is to get a good exit opportunity to end up working either for a Big Bank as an Equity Research Analyst or for an Investment Fund / Asset Management firm. My career end-goal is the following : Doing prop trading or investment management ...

Therefore, since I now have the opportunity to work in either the Transaction Services team (doing mostly Financial Due Diligence) OR the Valuation & Business Modelling team (i.e., asset pricing, impairment testing, general valuation ...), I am now wondering: "Which one of those two teams would offer me the best exit opportunities in order to later be able to land a job as an Equity Research / Investment Analyst ?"

FYI, I have been working for almost two years now in a field that has nothing to do with Finance after graduating in 2020 in Business Engineering with a minor in Finance. Thus, after applying pretty much everywhere in Belgium, I noticed that most recruiters would not give me my chance as they already consider me as "rotten".

Therefore, I really want to make sure that I chose the right team when making this internal move to better position myself this time ...

Anyway, back to my question : "Do recruiters/funds/banks in Europe usually value more having experience in TS or experience in VBM ?"

There you go, that's pretty much the only thing I want to know. However, if you see any other potential career paths that I could consider to switch my career towards Finance/Investment (e.g., Traineeships in Retail Banking, etc.), I would be delighted if you could mention them.

Many thanks for reading !
