How can I make myself more competitive?
Hey everyone, I'm a fairly recent WSO member. I was hoping to seek out some advice about my current resume. I just have no idea if its competitive in todays college admissions/internship landscape.I'm looking to break into M&A preferably in the healthcare sector. Alternatively equity research seems really interesting.I'm a 1st gen college student, I really don't have anyone to talk
Holy shit. Was going to help until I read that last paragraph. Go fuck yourself kid.
Whats wrong with the last paragraph?
the issue with the last paragraph is you kinda disrespect the 99% of us in BB or EB jobs that also dont have those things but we work hard and make opportunities for ourselves
Post your actually resume. Content seems good but presentation is key.
We would be able to be a lot more help if we had a visual aid
Just like Captain Rex suggested, post your actual resume (hiding your personal information and name of employers).
Here's some general advice:
1) Use the standard template from Mergers & Inquisitions (link here)
2) Cold email people on LinkedIn and ask to set a quick phone call
3) Stop putting down Chang and Aaron, it won't get you far
Best of luck!
Yeah I agree w/ your third point, if you aren't successful at recruiting it isn't because you lost your spot to a nepotism hire / minority, it's because you didn't work hard enough
Thanks for the advice. By no means was it meant to be disrespectful. My point is, there are some incredible qualified people applying to these schools.
big ego with no substance, immature (only 21? grow tf up), bad gpa, nontarget, no connections, yea i would say you’re fucked. Chang is going to fuck your girlfriend so be nice to him.
Dogshit gpa and ECs. You’re getting nowhere. Good luck staying in community college
Eh, probably so. Shoot for the moon and you’ll land amongst the stars something something.
I was looking at your application, I would ding. Broadly, there is not a thing in there that indicates any sort of interest in finance in general, let alone M&A. Which in itself would be fine but your story is quite disjointed. Culinary -> retail banking + entrepreneurship. Ignoring the community college aspect (I don't care, I appreciate everyone has different circumstances, but others will), that GPA alone closes the door for me.
There's not enough in there for me to be confident you're actually serious about a banking career and not just "checking it out". I would not want to take the risk on someone who I think could flake if they don't like it or when the going gets tough.
I think thats a fair take, very interesting to get insight from someone in the field. Thank you, i’ll work on it, would you recommend a investment club or some other group at the college to show that interest?
