Most baller cars under a hundred grand?
So I was having dinner with my brother the other night and he said that, with him just a few months away from hitting 40, he thinks it’s about time he enjoyed himself and get a fun, new, set of wheels.
“Haha! Isn't this a decade too early to have your dumbass mid-life crisis?” I said, but after obtusely flipping me the bird, he asserted that having worked hard most of his life and with no wife and kids to worry about yet, he might as well have some fun and treat himself to something nice.
Wait, back up. How is this related to Wall Street? Well… With bonuses supposedly at a record, you’d probably have this problem when you get to VP anyway, and if you’re a trader probably sooner, so this is sort of a prep. (Unless of course you’re the real deal like AJ and the boyz, then go ahead and buy a Porsche ASAP.)
Back to the argument, so over ribs we discussed what would be possible; and with a cap at 100k the prancing horses and raging bulls were sadly out of reach. We had to be a little creative here.
Used Porsche Turbo’s, classic muscle cars, former NATO SUV’s, even some weird-ass Fast and the Furious prop cars were thrown into the discussion.
Long story short, we ended up with three picks each:
His:
• Merc G-class
• Classic Shelby GT350 or Boss Mustang
• Entry level Porsche
Mine:
• Range Rover
• An older Bentley Arnage
• Classic Jaguar XK120 or XKE

I'd say find a good used Porsche. They can be tough to find though. My uncle has a friend who retired from his day job and now works at a Porsche dealer just for fun. He says whenever a used Porsche comes in it sells almost instantly since they tend to be in great shape.

I will second what LIBOR says about Porsches. There are two kind of Porsche owners, those that know about their car inside and out and those that don't. Ever Porsche owner I know falls into the former and treats their cars with absolute love and pride. It's a huge deal when a really nice classic Porsche comes into a dealer (A family friend of mine has an exotic car dealership), and those move fast if they are taken care of and held by one owner. I know a guy with a '98 993 (Last production year of a the 993) with less than 20K miles on, essentially brand new, that would sell instantly off the lot at any Porsche dealership (then again, the 993 is an air cooled beast, so that definitely helps).
No, the Ferrari is an overpriced POS. Having driven a few due to a family friend of mine, I wasn't impressed across the board. Unless we are talking true classic Ferrari, something like a 365 GTS, 250 GTO, a 308 GTB or a 365 Daytona, I will take a GT-R over most cars made by Ferrari.
I'm gonna suggest the Inifniti G37X Coupe. It's a beast of a car, an extremely low profile whip and is a powerhouse with a very low key design. It's a great car overall, that is well made and can handle most wear and tear. Plus, it has the added advantage of the NISMO Backing, which is a huge deal if you like to tune your car.
Mercedes CLK 63 AMG Black Series. Around 80k
My first thought. This or the RS5 when it makes it to the US next year.
Definitely a used 100k + car: BMW M6, Aston Martin Vantage, 911 Turbo or a lower mileage 355
A8. I know some models are over 100k, but lesser models are below I think. A8's are the most comfortable, reliable, classy, elegant cars, and yet 100% not even a tiny bit flashy. In China everyone has them too, so you just blend in amongst all the government officials (you don't want to stick our here unless you are a DB "fu-er-dai" as it's still kind of supposed to be sort of communist and all).

A brand new Lotus. Baller? How about a car that can't be used practically for any purpose... thats where the Lotus Exige shines! and it looks more aggressive than anything discussed.

Everyone seems to be pushing the upper limit. Under $50k? Lotus Elise.
I would get a Cadillac CTS-V. 556hp, 551 ft lbs of torque and a bevy of fantastic technologically advanced gadgetry. Comes in a sedan, coupe or wagon, whatever floats your boat. Faster than an M5 and cheaper to boot.
As back-ups I would consider a slightly used Audi R8 (V10 only) or the Nissan GTR. If I had a family it would definitely be an Audi A8L.

Corvette ZR1s are awesome (200+ mph) and cost around 105-110k. I love the Audi A8, and a 1-2 year old R8 would be nice too.

Maseratis are not as tasteful as some presume them to be. Porsche has classic looks, which I personally find more attractive than Aston Martins. Aston and Mas are for people who think theyre bucking the trend by going with a less popular automobile, but in reality all you're buying is lower-quality engineering.
I personally would buy a BMW B7 Alpina, which is slightly over 100k (like ~127.) Very fast, very unique, very luxurious. This is more of a 50 year old dudes car though.

It's important to look for something that has character and is original, key word is original.
My list would go something like:
**Air-cooled generation 911's. (However,a well maintained RS, GT2, 930, 964 or 993 could certainly surpass the $100k mark). AWD and Cab's don't count.
**BMW E30 M3. The original M3... good luck finding one.
**Audi Quattro. Preferably from 1983 or 1984, the years Hannu and Stig won the World Drivers Championship.
**Renault 5 Turbo. Beware, a lot of these have been defaced by the teenagers with their lurid aftermarket kits.
**Lotus 7. I hope you live near a track.
1.) Porsche 996 Turbo X50 ~ 50k 2.) E39 BMW M5 ~ 20K 3.) 96ish Viper Convertible ~30k

There are a lot of Aston Martins in my neighborhood, and that is a really, really nice looking automobile. But I was walking past one yesterday and the guy who owned it had more shit piled up in the back seat than a soccer mom with a minivan. I know that's not particularly germane to this discussion, I just found it odd. You'd think with a car that nice, he wouldn't use it as a dumpster. To each his own, I guess.

Reverse order of my personal preference:
3) Audi RS5 - brand new about 85k new. Prudent choice for an all around good car - will likely lose half its value in 2 years.
2) G550 around 95k new - Good choice if you like the hood-rich look(I do). It is also incredibly capable off-road though 99% of them dont leave the city/burbs
1) Used 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo. A pristine one will be anywhere from 70-100k. Probably the best looking 911 turbo ever made, an holds its value like no other. If I could buy one now I would.
That title belongs to the original Turbo, aka 930.
This should also qualify as "baller." It's the Bentley R-Type. It's not a Conti but it's still legit as the coachbuild was done by Radford.
Any motor enthusiast should make a trip to Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance or the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este as all of the oldschool classics are the stars of the show.

For a total of 100K I would go for a 993 turbo S (for everyday life) and an Ariel atom for fucking around/kill yourself during the weekends and track days. A second hand mint condition Aston martin V8 vantage might be a smart choice too, you can get a really nice one at around 70-80K in europe.
But all those choices have to vary depending on where you live.... the only thing i would get would be a 250cc vespa scooter if i would live in downtown london for example :P
Almost forgot... If you want true exclusivity then go for one of these two bad boys:

I don't think you're going to find a Morgan under $100,000. We actually have a Morgan "dealer" (for lack of a better term) in the neighborhood, and they never have anything in stock. They literally just match buyers and sellers it's such a high-demand automobile.

You left the scope pretty wide open here. Are you looking for something with any practicality whatsoever? Do you want the fastest car you can get (and even then, just in a straight line, or around the bends too)? Just something to get the women in the passenger seat? Some rapper appeal?
If you are looking for straight "baller", I would recommend what was mentioned earlier. A lotus Elise or Exige (I tend to think the Elise actually looks a bit nicer). They also happen to be well under $100k, but my friend owns an elise, and people frequently think its a 2-300k car. That said, it's completely impractical. It's actually a rather uncomfortable ride, and storage space is more or less nill. You will be glad to be out of that uncomfortable cramped little box after more than a half hour trip.
Next up, right at the 100k mark would be the Ford GT. Its an amazing car, but very hard to come by, I saw one once, and it looked like they actually put a little thought into comfort, you might be able to take a trip out east in one without dying to get the F out by the end.

Nissan GT-R, hands down. Others for consideration might be a Merc SL63 coming off a lease or something but why even bother with those overpriced sleds.
Audi falls into the category of the "cool" car to have but I'd rather have something semi-unique/not as common.
note: would never consider the JV-version of anything (i.e. porsche boxster, Audi A series instead of S series).

I reffered my friend to another one who sells cars and he bought a used 08 gallardo for $94,000. That trumps all these other cars to help a 40 year old trying to bang some 22 year old model.
In Singapore, with 200% upfront tax on cars, continuous road taxes ("ERP"), plus an annual tax to keep it registered, I have accepted that I will probably never get a car here. A BMW 5 series would cost over US$150,000 upfront plus thousands more each year just keeping it on the road. If I later move to another country, maybe i'd get a porsche :-)
Sounds like owning any car in Singapore qualifies as "baller"...even if it's a Prius, lol.

I think baller implies a bit of class. I'd sacrifice a few (useless) seconds in the quarter mile for something with some serious refinement inside like a Bentley Supersport or an Aston DBS.

for SUV's i'd go for a Land Rover Defender or Mercedes G class. Lamborghini LM002 if you can find one.

I definitely agree that it's about quality, but you do need to remember the price restriction set forth. While I do not fall into your stereotyped groups, I will say that the GT-R is a hell of a car, and is a reasonably priced exotic car (Yes, I know it's a Japanese car, but Godzilla, either as the GT-R or Nissan Skyline [doesn't matter whether we're talking the R31/32/33/34 or the GT-R], falls under the category of Japanese Supercars, along with the Honda/Acura NSX, the Lexus LF-A and Toyota Supra) that fits the guidelines. You can find that '56 XK140, but how much work would need to be done to restore it to it's full beauty? That said, we're talking about cars under $100,000 here, so that eliminates a good deal of classic cars. That takes out the Cobras, certain Ferraris, a couple of the Astons and so on...
For the selection of cars that meet the price rules, it's not a bad selection.
