Help! Analyst Invited to International Conference

Hi guys. So one of the partners in my firm (UMM) was unable to go to the SuperReturn Global Private Equity conference in Berlin and so the firm had an extra ticket. That same partner has backed me since I started (he was MD when he pulled me in) and helped in the decision to give his ticket to me. I will be going to the conference with tons of LPs and many top PE professionals including David Rubenstein, Orlando Bravo, Michael Arougheti, and even Kim K (lol).

It will just be me, an MD, and the founding partner. We already have meetings lined up but they said I should be out and about networking and talking to other LPs throughout the conference, I'm very extroverted so its not bad.

Issue is I have never been to a conference and don't know what to expect, plus I don't know the founding partner as good. Any helpful tips on how to engage LPs or the aformentioned top PE professionals? I'm super grateful for the opportunity and I want to get the best out of it. Thanks!

Hi, how was the SuperReturn experience? Do you have any tips for making the most out of it for someone going this year for the first time? I work at an LP firm doing FoF and Co-investments.

Ask the boss for your firm’s deck and IR for their usual talking points so you can prepare for networking. See if they’ll let you into their LP meetings so you can see how they pitch.

Download the conference app and build a list of LPs you should try to meet. See if your IR already has a hit list that you can try for.

Go to parties but don’t get wasted, and chase LPs not tail. Write a short note when you meet someone interesting and send to the boss/IR so they can file it away. What firm they are from, role and title, how much AUM, typical check size, what they have deployed into previously how the portfolio is positioned and whether they are writing new checks.

Good practice for one day when you have to raise for yourself, and you’ll impress the boss.
