Impact / Climate Investing?

Anyone have info on these groups at some of the larger funds (Apollo, TPG, etc.)?

Does it really have less prestige than generalist PE? How does comp differ? Is it a useless, low returns group solely for the purpose of boosting ESG scores? How competitive is it? Will it pigeonhole me? Would I be better off in generalist MM PE?

Feel like it’s just a different kind of investing. E.g. someone interested in impact/climate investing is probably not someone who wants to join a typical buyout fund. Same goes for the exit opps - if you want to do something impact related/go to Bschool then it might help more, if you want to do something else then it might help less.

Know from a kid in my class that the comp is the same, at least at the associate level.

Am curious how the WLB/hours differ from the typical buyout groups at places like Apollo/TPG.

Apollo and TPG Climate are very different (APO is a rebranding of the nat resources group, TPG is more impact/growth oriented with some infra). Each climate fund overall is very different so do you homework

It will pigeonhole you (but in different ways as those funds are so different) and I recommend staying out if you aren’t actually interested
