Can you exit from Fund to Asset management or Investment in Real Estate ?
URGENT !!
Hello,
I am currently interviewing for a position as a fund management analyst at a real estate investment and asset management company. I must admit that initially, I applied for a position in asset management or investment analysis, but given the current real estate market situation, the company only had a fund management position to offer.
If I were to take this fund management position, I would like to know if I could switch in the same company or another one to asset management or investment analyst quickly and easily after 6 months/1 year or a maximum of 2 years working in fund management.
What do you think? Is it possible or not worth it ?
Please, I need a quick response because my interviews have just ended, and I need to give an answer to the company.
Thank you for your time !
To give more detail about this particular position of fund management analyst :
2/3 to 3/4 of the work consist of =
- Calculating and monitoring the forecasted performance of managed funds
- Monitoring and controlling (valuations, cash flow management, banking ratios) + reporting
the last 1/4 to 1/3 consist of :
- Managing new acquisitions
- Managing real estate strategy and real estate issues in coordination with the Asset Manager
Please, I need a quick response because my interviews have just ended, and I need to give an answer to the company.
Thank you for your time !
What are you doing now? Would this be your first job out of university or are you already in the industry? Does the company a strong name?
This would be my first job after graduating and yes the company is strong name in Europe
Is that at invesco?
I would like to keep the name of the company anonymous if that's ok with you. But the company is for sure a great name in Europe
AXA IM?

I say take it, at least you get some good experience and - according to you - a good name on the resume.
Transaction roles are super rare nowadays, so I'd take the job and then look for something else
Any chance it's in Italy?
Thank you for your responds !
That is what I am saying to myself. The job market (particulary in Real Estate) is at its lowest point. I can't miss this opportunity. But I really don't want to be stuck at fund management. My strategy is to start in fund management but always be on the lookout for an opportunity in asset management or investment.
I simply just need more experienced individuals in the field to tell me that it's feasible and achievable and that they've seen professionals do it before (moving from fund to asset/invest). This will allow me to seize this opportunity confidently and continue to look for opportunities at asset management or investment.
Is this in London ?
No it is not in London. What do you think about my question ? I am genuinely seeking guidance
Definitely hold out, market is picking up and it is not a good look to be hopping roles this early in your career.
id advise in going to a smaller shop, transaction skills are not transferable, funds is very specific and you would be silod to that type of role…
Is the fund real estate equity? If so, I think this is a portfolio management role and you should easily be able to go to asset specific real estate AM if you please in the future.
Hello and thank you for your respond.
The money of the fund is financed with something like 80% to 90 % Equity (from Corporation, institution, family office money...) and the rest is financed with Debt (20 to 10%).
Let me specify that this EU real estate fund is something similar to what the US and the UK call a REIT.
