CV Review - London EB/BB Recruitment

Hi guys,

I'm wondering where realistic places are for me to end up in London when I apply to IBD in the next few months.

Here is my profile:

  • LSE Master Accounting & Finance 2021-2022
  • Grew up in London, went to a German school and got 3.5 GPA equivalent (1.8 Abitur) (native German & English)
  • Non-target Bachelor in Holland with 3.5 GPA (8.0)
  • Internships: EY Advisory, Grant Thornton M&A, Startup focussed on renewables, founded own startup (all in Germany)
  • Extra: VC part-time, CFI FMVA
  • Exchange to Bocconi
  • 720 GMAT
  • Ethnicity: white, German & British

Given that a lot of people coming to LSE already have top-internships in BB/EB, I get the impression it will be very tough for me to land the absolute top jobs. Still, it's hard to get an accurate impression on LinkedIn where I stand amongst all the other applicants. If you guys could give me some honest advice and tell me where people with my profile will likely end up, I'd really appreciate that.

Also, is it impossible to end up as an Analyst at a top BB/EB if you don't manage to get in via an SA?

Thanks a lot in advance

Don't count on FT recruiting as most of the banks open FT roles to cover possible shortages from SA conversions or extra needs. SA or OC programs are the best way in. Your profile is good enough to get you interviews I presume but you also need to start networking early and consistently and as always don't just go after "top jobs". Cast a wide net from BBs/EBs to MM banks across the street.

Assuming you have no immigration issues since you're British-German then HSG won't hurt you but I don't think will dramatically improve your odds b/c of that one extra internship either. Both are target schools/programs which is important but I've seen people "not making it" from both. I've seen much much worse profiles than yours landing top tier roles and much better landing nowhere so what matters in your case (having a decent profile and target uni secured) is your approach and consistency in recruiting.
